The Director General of the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company has been elected by the Broadcasting Council

On 25 May, 2026 the Broadcasting Council of the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company held meeting on the election of the Director General. The Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan received application documents from candidates for the position of Director General from 27 April to 8 May of the current year. The documents were subsequently presented to the Broadcasting Council of the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company.

The meeting commenced with the election of a secretary and a commission responsible for counting the votes, followed by the presentation of the procedural rules. At the beginning of the meeting, the request submitted by one of the candidates, Ilaha Aliyeva, to withdraw her candidacy was accepted, following which her name was removed from the list of candidates.

The candidates were then invited to the meeting, where they presented their concepts and programs, outlining the changes and innovations they would introduce to the activities of the public broadcaster if elected Director General. They also responded to questions from members of the Broadcasting Council.

Following the presentations of all candidates, a secret voting was held, resulting in the unanimous election of Balakishi Gasimov as Director General of the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company for a four-year term.

Responsible representatives of the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Media Development Agency, as well as the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company attended the meeting as observers.
